The Last (2011, Broken Oak Publishing)

A middle grade/young adult science fiction novel with a postapocalyptic coming-of-age story all about moving through grief, coming together, and celebrating monumental and not-so-monumental moments that make us who we are and teach us to thrive—not just survive.

A touching and imaginative story! The Last pulled me into Jo’s world from the very first page. Her loneliness, curiosity, and growth felt so real, and the emotional twists hit hard. I loved how the story unfolded with mystery, heart, and hope. This book beautifully explores love, loss, and finding connection in unexpected places. It’s heartfelt, inspiring, and quietly powerful a true hidden gem.

Stoodie (2007, Broken Oak Publishing)

A middle grade/young adult science fiction novel about the dystopia of what happens when education is completely restructured in the future. People download information through a machine, doing away with creativity, imagination, and thinking on their own. So what happens when one girl must go to school to (gasp) learn?

This is an awesome book. While it is written geared towards a middle school audience, it is readily accessible and also a fun read for adults as well! I highly recommend this book.
